Friday, Nov. 8, 2013
Bill Middleton is the Information Systems Manager and a lecturer in the Leavey School of Business. He won the Staff Award for Innovation last spring which acknowledges the staff person who incorporates new perspectives and new approaches to the workplace.
Get to know Bill a little better!
I am from the Bay Area and am an SCU alum. I joined the business School in 2005.
Photography, gardening and soccer currently top my ever changing list of hobbies. The camera gets use running around after my 2 kids, and every once and a while on a photo hike.
I come from a long line of backyard vegetable gardeners, and this year is going to be my first attempt at a Winter garden. Currently my backyard garden plot has: onions, carrots, spinach, beets, kale and broccolini.
I enjoy both watching and playing soccer. Shameless plug for the noon Faculty/Staff indoor soccer game on Tuesdays and Thursdays on the Malley hardwood court.
Variety is the spice of life when it comes to eating. Though BBQ is my favorite if I have a whole day to smoke some food. Lately my favorite restaurant has been The Smoking Pig in Downtown San Jose for BBQ, it’s not some place you go to impress a date, but the BBQ is easily better than the local chain stores. They also have a stage for live bluegrass music on Friday nights.
I don't really have a favorite author. The books I read this summer include
Non-Fiction: Guns,Germs and Steel by Jared Diamond (review of global human history) Eating on the Wild Side by Po Robinson (a look at wild food vs. standard food found in supermarkets) and Red by Gary Neville (autobiography of a former Manchester United defender)
Fiction: The First Law Trilogy by Joe Abercrombie (similar-ish to Game of Thrones, it's dark and gritty with black humor)
