Senior Student Michael Jacoby: Awarded Grant as Part of SCU's Undergraduate Research Initiative

Monday, Apr. 25, 2011

Senior Economics major Michael Jacoby has been awarded an undergraduate student travel grant as part of SCU’s Undergraduate Research Initiative.  The $1,000 grant was given in support of his paper, Race and the Paradox of Declining Female Happiness, a study of the paradox of declining female happiness at a time when the happiness of male and female African Americans is increasing.

Jacoby will present his paper at the Western Economic Association International Annual Meeting this summer, in one of the sessions organized by Professors John Ifcher and Homa Zarghamee.  He is nervous about presenting his paper because the conference is his first professional economic seminar and he doesn’t feel familiar with that aspect of the research industry.  When speaking of the upcoming conference, Jacoby said, “However, at the same time this is an industry and a topic that I am extremely passionate about, and I have been working extremely hard on my paper, so the chance to showcase my research in this professional environment could prove to be very rewarding.”
