Professor of Practice of OMIS
Luke initially joined SCU in 2003 as a part-time lecturer in the OMIS Department while working full-time in the high tech industry as an executive level R&D manager. He joined the OMIS Department as a Professor of Practice in September 2012 after leaving VMware where he was an R&D VP. Prior to VMware, he held executive level management positions at Yosemite Technologies (now Barracuda Networks), Legato (now EMC), LynuxWorks, Itron Inc., and Microtec Research (now Mentor Graphics). As VP of Engineering, Luke directed all product development during Microtec’s Initial Public Offering (IPO) in 1994.
During his 35-year high tech career, Luke worked on or managed systems and software development for embedded systems, enterprise software, developer tools, desktop and PC software applications, distributed applications, wireless networks, web development, IT applications, security and privacy software, and more. He brings this breadth of industry experience into his teaching at SCU, providing first-hand, insider, knowledge and insights of how the industry operates.
Luke’s teaching focus at SCU is in high technology management, especially in software development and virtualization. He founded and operates Dion Technology Management, a technology management consulting practice.
Luke holds B.A. degrees in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley. He also studied Computer Science as a Masters’ candidate at Stanford University.
