Dr. Steven Nahmias is a Professor in the Operations & Management Information Systems Department in the Leavey School of Business here at Santa Clara University. He is the author or co-author of more than 50 technical papers, which have appeared in a variety of journals and books. He has gained an international reputation as an expert in stochastic inventory theory. He has served as an associate editor for Management Science, Area Editor in Supply Chain Operations for Operations Research, senior editor for the Manufacturing & Service Operations Management Journal, and associate editor for Naval Research Logistics.

In 1989, the Richard. D. Irwin company published Dr. Nahmias' book titled, Production and Operations Analysis. Since then, it has gone through six revisions, with the most current copyrighted 2009 and published by McGraw Hill. More than 100 colleges and universities world-wide including Stanford, Berkeley, MIT, and the Harvard School of Business have adopted the text. It is taught in both business and engineering programs and has been translated into both Spanish and Hebrew. Dr. Nahmias has been at SCU since 1979, and during that time has served as Department Chair (1987-1991), Director of the Competitive Manufacturing Institute (1991-1997), and Director of Faculty Development and Research (2007 - present). In 1998, he received the university award for Sustained Excellence in Scholarship.

Dr. Nahmias enjoys golf, biking, and swimming. In addition, he is a semi-professional jazz trumpet player and performs with several bands on the peninsula.
