Mu XiaAssistant Professor of OMIS Mu Xia, Ph.D., is an assistant professor in the Department of Operations Management and Information Systems.Prior to joining SCU in 2009, he was an assistant professor at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's business school. Before that, he received his Ph.D. in Management Science and Information Systems from the University of Texas at Austin's McCombs School of Business, where he worked as a research assistant in the Center for Research in Electronic Commerce under the guidance of Professor Andrew B. Whinston. His main research interests include empirical studies of e-commerce, including user's purchasing and sharing behaviors online, and combinatorial auctions, the latter his dissertation topic. His work has been published in scholarly journals including Information Systems Research, Journal of Management Information Systems, Communications of the ACM, European Journal of Operational Research, Decision Support Systems and Industrial and Corporate Change. He won the best paper awards at the Workshop on e-Business (WeB) 2010 and the Fifth China Summer Workshop on Information Management (CSWIM) 2011, two leading academic conference on e-Business and information management. He also serves on the editorial board of journals such as Journal of Database Management and Information Systems and E-business Management. He also has extensive industry working experience. As a graduate student, he worked in a start-up company that made scheduling recovery software for airlines. The company was later acquired by Accenture. As a researcher, he collaborates with leading e-commerce companies such as Taobao in China to understand online reviews and user growth. Professor Xia also received his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Automation) from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China.
