Inspiring Our Work, Renewing Our Spirit

A year-long speaker series for faculty and staff funded by a Bannan Grant.
The Call to Aliveness in Our Work
Gregg Levoy, Author of Callings: Finding and Following an Authentic Life

Thursday, October 22: 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., Benson, CA Mission Rm.

Co-sponsored by Center for Student Leadership, Drahmann Advising Center, and Human Resources.

Bringing our full and authentic selves to work means wrestling with the tensions inherent in our work lives, and sometimes struggling to not only keep our spirits up, but reclaim them from life’s downward-pulling forces and deadening effects that can siphon our vitality from us. This requires courageous inquiry into our work lives if not our souls, and a commitment to taking time out for reflection in the onrushing of career, and the demands of challenging times, which aren’t merely intrusions on the work to be done---they’re also callings. We’re being called to respond: to shore up our courage, experiment with new approaches, reinvent ourselves, manage our own anxieties, and suffer creatively. This presentation is about how we can keep the receiver turned on, listening for what our work lives are calling for from us. It’s about cultivating a keen awareness of where the pulse is and a determination to keep plugged into that place, knowing that our individual work is also the work of the world---that when we insist on our own vitality, we stake a claim for everyone’s vitality, including the students and colleagues with whom we work.

Callings: The Power of Passionate Work
Gregg Levoy, Author of Callings: Finding and Following an Authentic Life
Thursday, October 22: 2:00 – 5:00 p.m., Benson, Parlors BC

Co-sponsored by Center for Student Leadership and Drahmann Advising Center.

People who are fueled by a sense of calling about their work----a deep feeling of fit and purpose, a sense of aliveness, a match between who they are and what they do----will bring that kind of passion and spirit to their careers, their companies and communities, and their lives. This dynamic and hands-on workshop uses writing, dialoguing, self-reflection, small group work and humor to help you deepen your exploration and understanding of the process people typically encounter in listening and responding to their callings, and help you gain clarity and courage to take whatever Next Step will align or re-align you with what your own work life is calling-for from you.
