Image Databases for Teaching

Santa Clara Image Database (SCID)
SCID is a library of digital images of works of art and other cultural materials, descriptive information about the works recorded in these images, and tools to work with the images and their documentation. SCID currently includes 8,000+ digital images and is growing all the time based on faculty image requests.

Subscription Sources

Oxford Art Online
Provides access to 45,000 digital images from museum, gallery, and other art websites through links from articles as well as a special image-only search.

Dictionary of National Biography
10,000 portraits in all media are included in this standard reference source for British biography. Images can be searched by sitter, artist, date, location of the portrait, and copyright holder. Biographies also includes lists of other portraits of the subject.
