Kathleen Maxwell 

Kathleen Maxwell attended Denison University and the University of Aberdeen, Scotland before completing her B.FA. at Southern Methodist University. Her Ph.D. from The University of Chicago emphasized Medieval and Byzantine Art. At Santa Clara since 1983, Maxwell teaches both lower and upper division courses, specializing in the ancient and medieval Mediterranean roots of Western art, including Greek, Roman, Early Christian and Byzantine, Early Medieval, Romanesque and Gothic Art. She researches Byzantine, Armenian, and Italian art of the 13th and 14th centuries, and has published articles in Dumbarton Oaks Papers, Revue des études Armeniennes, and Arte Cristiana, as well as book reviews for Speculum, Byzantinische Zeitschrift, and The Medieval Review.
