Trung Pham
Trung Pham is a lecturer at Santa Clara University. He earned his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from UCLA, California, and his MFA in Drawing/Painting from Pratt Institute, New York, in 2006. He also studied philosophy from Loyola University, Chicago.
Trung Pham came to the Fine Arts department in 2006 as a part of his Jesuit formation. He had taught chemistry and drawing at Loyola High School, Los Angeles.
The inspiration of Trung’s work comes from Vietnamese straw hats. The hat is a symbol for his cultural heritage. As he learns more about the language of painting and art, the form of the conical hat becomes more abstract and takes on greater meaning. The works result from the transformation of how he understands about the complexity of his cultural root and learn to resolve them through artistic expressions.
