I am the enologist for Stag's Leap Wine Cellars in Napa. I supervise the lab--a lab manager and staff of 3 lab techs--in conducting chemical analysis on grape juice and wine. I also support the winemaker's in a variety of capacities, tasting, blending, conducting experimental trials. It is extremely interesting and enjoyable work. I enjoy using my chemistry background and the integration with viticulture, food, tourism and sales. Potential chemistry majors should know that whenever I was applying for a job, by employers have been impressed that I had a chemistry degree rather than another "softer" science because they regard the discipline as challenging and useful.
