Rachel KnudsenQuarterly Adjunct LecturerProfessor Knudsen comes to Santa Clara after spending three years as an Assistant Professor in the department of Classics and Letters at the University of Oklahoma. At Stanford and OU, she has taught Greek and Latin language at all levels as well as a wide variety of ancient literature in translation, and has supervised several undergraduate research theses. Her research interests include Homer, Archaic poetry, and ancient rhetoric; she is particularly interested in the representation of speech across all genres of ancient poetry and prose. She has published articles on the sophists' appreciation of poetic material and rhetorical argumentation in the Homeric Hymn to Hermes, and is preparing a book manuscript on the relationship between Homeric speech and the origins of rhetoric as a discipline. |
