Brian Adams
Adjunct Lecturer for the Department of Communication
Academic/professional background: Mr. Adams received a B.A., with honors, in Radio-Television Broadcasting from San Jose State University in 1980. In 1994, he received a Master of Science degree in Mass Communication from San Jose State University's School of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Mr. Adams is vice president for Advancement at Bellarmine College Preparatory. Previously he was vice president of client services at Orloff/Williams Advertising and Public Relations, and served as the associate publisher for the former weekly publication Silicon Valley Biz Ink and as the co-publisher and editor of its sister-publication, Valley Scene, for which he also wrote a monthly arts and entertainment column. Mr. Adams enjoyed a 22 year career in television broadcasting at KICU in San Jose, where his experience included engineering, film editing, producing, writing, talent work, and several years in news, community affairs, and entertainment programming. A two-time Emmy nominee, Mr. Adams has received numerous national and regional awards for public service and entertainment programming. He has also been an anchor and reporter for KTVU News. His entertainment reports are heard weekly on radio stations KLIV and KRTY, and he is a member of the Kappa Tau Alpha National Honor Society in Journalism and Mass Communication.
Born and raised in San Jose, Mr. Adams has been actively involved in the community with such organizations Rotary Club of San Jose and Books Aloud, is chair of the board of the American Cancer Society in Santa Clara County, and serves on advisory boards of Hospice of the Valley, InnVision, and Family Giving Tree. He was among the first of six men to be elected to the board of the YWCA of Silicon Valley. Honoring his commitment to the community, San Jose Public Library's adult literacy program, Partners in Reading, established the Brian Adams Award for Community Support.
Teaching areas/responsibilities: Mr. Adams has been an adjunct lecturer at Santa Clara University since 1988, teaching a variety of courses including Visual Communication, Television Writing, Presenting News for Broadcast, Broadcast History, Screenwriting and Popular Culture Studies.
