Barbara Kelley

Academic/professional background: Professor Kelley received her bachelor's degree in social science, emphasizing psychology, from Santa Clara University and later received her master's degree in communication with a print journalism emphasis from Stanford University's Graduate Program in Journalism.

Teaching areas/responsibilities: Professor Kelley teaches introductory and advanced journalism classes for both newspapers and magazines. She also advises senior students pursuing journalism capstone projects in lieu of senior thesis. She is the Arrupe Center faculty Associate for 2003-4.

Research interests: As a journalist, Professor Kelley has written for a wide range of publications including the Christian Science Monitor, Health Magazine, Redbook, salon.com, Pacific News Service, Bay Area Parent, and the San Jose Mercury News and San Francisco Chronicle, for both the daily papers and Sunday magazines. Her most recent work has been related to health, parenting and women's issues; much of it has been syndicated nationally. She has published a book entitled Vacations and Weekends Learning Guide(Prentice Hall, 1983) and has delivered speeches to lawyers groups on the media and the courts and to local parent groups on family issues.
