Lambda Pi Eta, the official communication studies honor society, was founded at the University of Arkansas in 1985, and has over 300 active chapters at colleges and universities worldwide.

The Theta Rho Chapter was installed at Santa Clara University in 1999. The purpose of the society is to recognize, foster and reward outstanding scholastic achievement; to stimulate interest in the field of communication; to promote and encourage professional development among communication majors; to provide an opportunity to exchange ideas in the field of communication; and to establish and maintain close relationships and understanding between faculty and students.
