Awards for his work include an American Academy of Poets prize, University of California Poet Laureate Award, Sundog Poetry Prize, and Chester H. - He has also published scholarly articles on the poets Robinson Jeffers and Mary Oliver.
- He is currently seeking a publisher for a middle-reader novel, Lefthandland, about a girl and a microscopic civilization in her left hand, both of which are threatened by the conquering forces of the Rightlands.
