Biographical Information

Cynthia has taught at Santa Clara for three years. Previously she has taught Fiction, Literature and ESL courses at Stanford University, Hunter College in New Yrok, and the University at Albany New York. She received her M.A. in Applied Linguistics (TESL) from Hunter College in New York.

She recently completed her Ph.D. studies in English at the University of Albany and is defending her dissertation, a historical novel set in 19th century North Africa, revolving around a friendship between an Arab and an American.

Research Interests
  • She is interested in developing writing courses that integrate literary study and cultural analysis and would like to explore the possibility of teaching with professors in other departments in the university.
  • She is preparing to present a paper on integrating historical fiction into writing curricula, at the Associated Writing Program Conference in Vancouver in Spring 2005.
