Funding Partners
Ulistac Natural Area Restoration and Education Project is funded primarily through a variety of grants from local corporations and local governments.
-
The Environmental Studies Institute at Santa Clara University is home to the Ulistac Outreach Center. ESI supports the Outreach Center in many ways and provides office space, phone, fax, and internet access.
-
The City of Santa Clara supports its parks! The City has "kept construction in the park to a minimum so that visitors will be able to experience and appreciate the wildlife and vegetation that naturally occur in this area," explained Larry Wolfe, Director of Parks and Recreation. City employees also encourage community members to enjoy and volunteer at Ulistac Natural Area.
-
A grant from Intel (2003-2006) provided support to develop the Outreach Coordinator position and the expansion of the Docent Program. As a result of this support, the Outreach Center has created a Field Trip program for students in grades K-8, a Docent Program, and has supported community-based habitat restoration.
-
The Mission City Community Fund sponsored new interpretive signs for native plant species in the Bird and Butterfly Garden. These signs, installed in Spring 2007, will help visitors to the Garden appreciate and identify native plants by their scientific and common names.
-
A grant from Oracle supported the creation of the Ulistac Natural Area Docent Training Manual in 2004. This manual is used to train new docents at Ulistac. The Docent Manual also provides background information for our field trip leaders who lead free, on-site activities for kindergarten through 8th grade classes.
-
The Rockwell Collins Charitable Corporation, under the Rockwell Collins Green Communities Program, provided funding in 2006 to support native plant restoration.
-
A Water Stewardship Grant from the SCVWD (2004-2005) supported the Ulistac GIS Mapping Project. Community volunteers collected GPS data and published maps of Ulistac Natural Area, showing elements such as park boundaries, the old levee location, wetlands locations, and tree locations. This data allows the City of Santa Clara and restoration volunteers to keep track of and analyze the restoration project at Ulistac Natural Area.
