2008 Wildflower Celebration

- Intel has provided funding to support promotion of and giveaways for the 2008 Wildflower Celebration.

Participating Organizations
Check back often, as participants are added as they confirm. If your organization would like to participate in this event, please contact us at ulistac@scu.edu - Silicon Valley Power will provide information about Santa Clara Green Power and give away free Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs.
- The Santa Clara Valley Watercolor Society will join us to sketch flowers in the bird and butterfly garden or nearby eucalyptus and cotton wood trees.
- S.C. County Open Space Authority will bring live animals! Check out their booth to learn more about Santa Clara's open space.
- Environmental artist Zach Pine will playfully create constructions using natural materials with visitors of all ages in the Ulistac Nature Sculpture Arena.
- Local children and teachers at neighboring Don Callejon and Kathryn Hughes schools will release Painted Lady Butterflies in conjunction with Earth's Birthday Project.
- Al with Surf Doggies will sell chili, hot dogs, chips, and cold drinks!
- The Santa Clara City Library's Literacy Program will have a table on behalf of Read Santa Clara.
- Community Service Officer Robert Castro, from the Santa Clara Police Department, will stop by to visit with event participants.
- Confluence Watershed Restoration & Landscaping Specialists was responsible for planting over 1,000 native shrubs and oaks throughout Ulistac. They will share more information about what they did, and the types of services they offer.
- Wilcox High School students in the Montebello Ridge Program shared their projects with visitors.
- Middlebrook Gardens will share information about sustainable landscape design.
- South Bay Folks will join the festivities again, to provide acoustic music for everyone's enjoyment.
- Sammarye Lewis will display her nature photography and photograph the event.
- Alpha Gamma Sigma from Mission College, a group that frequently volunteers at Ulistac, will fundraise for their club by selling snacks.
- S.C. Valley Audubon Society will share information about their programs.

2007 Wildflower Celebration - a recap Over 250 community members of all ages attended the event. - Native Revival Nursery had a plant sale, enabling visitors to start or enhance their own native plant gardens.
- Silicon Valley Power provided information about Santa Clara Green Power and gave away free Compact Fluorescent Light bulbs.
- Ulistac Natural Area Restoration & Education Project hosted a raffle, provided information and history about Ulistac Natural Area, and gave away California Poppy seedlings and wildflower seed packets. Raffle prizes were generously provided by Green Earth Office Supply and Santa Clara Girl Scouts.
- Acterra gave away information about their programs, including their Environmental Leadership Course.
- S.C. County Open Space Authority provided great information about their programs and how to take advantage of our local open spaces.
- S.C. Master Composters had lots of information about starting and maintaining a home composting system.
- S.C. Valley Audubon Society taught kids and adults about their programs. They had cool specimens!
- Silicon Valley Bicycle Coalition gave away bike maps and information about their Bike to Work Day program.
- Girl Scouts of Santa Clara nourished park visitors with snacks and beverages.
- Wilcox High School students in the Montebello Ridge Program shared their projects with visitors.
- 4th and 5th graders from Don Callejon School taught people about the plants and animals at Ulistac through fun games, face painting, and giveaways.
- Sports Basement had information about their products, giveaways, and a raffle!
- The S.C. Fire Department parked a fire truck on Lick Mill Blvd, gave children the opportunity to explore the truck, and gave away cool red helmets!
- A S.C. Police Officer enjoyed the festivities and gave away sheriff badge stickers.
- UNAREP offered tours of Ulistac Natural Area, as well as of the Bird and Butterfly Garden. We were all too happy to show off the garden's new plant identification signs, courtesy of a grant from the Mission City Community Fund and the hard installation work of volunteers (especially Santa Clara Eagle Scouts and the Chi Upsilon Zeta crew from Santa Clara University).
- Local experts Sharon McCray (Master Gardener and Master Composter) and John Allen (Climate change speaker trained by Al Gore) shared their knowledge with park visitors.
- Chris Salander (UNAREP) and Paul Barghouth (Wilcox High School sophomore) gave planting demonstrations in the garden.
- South Bay Folks: Ambergrass (Phil & Anne Pflager), Tom Scharf, Randy Wizek, John Sidle and Dave Metzger set the mood of the event with great music!
