Special Projects 2008/09
| Special Events for 2008-2009 - MORE COMING SOON! deSaisset Collaboration Just Pretend Everything is OK: Evri Kwong September 27-December 13, 2008 In his boldly confrontational paintings and prints, San Francisco-based artist Evri Kwong explores a novel—and socially engaged—form of narrative painting. Featuring stories culled from current events and interpreted in all their vivid brutality, his works confront our culture’s deliberate ignorance. National issues such as hypocrisy, consumerism, racism, sexual abuse, religious intolerance, and violence, all provide fodder for his expressive vision. (from the deSaisset website) The Justice and the Arts Initiative will co-sponsor this event and moderate a panel presentation on socially engaged art and mentor faculty whose art, dance, theatre and music classes will create artistic responses to the exhibit. “Art as Terrain and Challenge: Socially Engaged Art” Panel Presentation with Evri Kwong and Faculty Guests Moderated by Kristin Kusanovich, JAI Light refreshments will be served.
