SPAN 175 History of the Spanish Language
A study of the evolution of the Spanish language from its roots on the Iberian Peninsula to its spread throughout the world. Special attention will be paid to social and political factors that have helped to shape the language in its modern forms. Course will be taught in English, but knowledge of Spanish is helpful

SPAN 176 Social Varieties of Spanish
The study of how issues of power, class, gender, and age are represented in the linguistic diversity of Modern Spanish. Special attention will be given to Spanish in the U.S. The course will be taught in English. Prerequisites: Spanish 100 and 101.
