John Russell

With a degree in Music Performance from San Jose State University, John Russell was awarded a position with the San Jose Symphony Orchestra in 1975. Since that time, he has performed with many of the leading musical organizations of Northern California, including the orchestras of the San Francisco Opera and Ballet, and the major summer festivals, including the Mid-Summer Mozart Festival Orchestra. His involvement with jazz has resulted in six albums recorded with the Jazz Garden, Full Faith and Credit, and James Leary Big Band.

Currently Mr. Russell is on the faculty of Santa Clara University, where he teaches trombone and directs the Jazz Ensemble. Since 1988, a California Arts Council grant has also enabled him to serve as an artist-in-residence in the San Jose Unified School District.
