Shannon Vallor

Associate Professor of Philosophy (Ph.D., Boston College, 2001)

Main areas of research and teaching emphasis are phenomenology, philosophy of science and technology, and philosophy of mind. Dr. Vallor's past and current research explores phenomenological approaches to problems in contemporary analytic metaphysics and epistemology as well as ethical issues raised by emerging technologies.  Her dissertation, completed in 2001, is entitled "How We Think About Things:  Reference in Husserl and the Analytic Tradition".  Recent publications have appeared in the journals Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences, Inquiry, and Ethics and Information Technology.  She is currently working on a book entitled '21st Century Virtue:  Toward an Ethical Framework for Living Well with Emerging Technologies."
