Father Hayn received B.S. and M.A. degrees in Philosophy from Gonzaga University in 1939 and 1940 and an S.T.L. degree from Alma College in 1948. In 1955, he receiveda Ph.D. from St. Louis University where he worked in experimental solid state physics. After graduate school, he spent time as a post-doctoral student at the Oak Ridge Institute of Nuclear Studies and pursued further studies in nuclear physics at Washington State University. Since coming to Santa Clara in 1955, Father Hayn has served as president of the Northern California/Nevada section of the American Association of Physics Teachers and continues to publish scholarly articles in journals such as The American Journal of Physics and The Physics Teacher.
