Political Science Peer Advisors 2011-12

Incoming Political Science majors are paired up with an upperclass Peer Advisor in addition to their assigned faculty advisor.  In partnership with the faculty, trained Peer Advisors will work with assigned students throughout their first academic year, and help to answer academic and social questions commonly encountered.  Freshmen and transfer students are contacted by their Peer Advisors prior to their arrival on campus.

Office hours

Additionally, Peer Advisors staff drop-in hours in the department office (A&S 230) to answer questions about Core and major requirements and degree progress.  Peer Advisor hours for Winter 2011 are:

 

Monday: An 8:15-10:15, Jen 12-2, Lorena 2:15-4:15

Tuesday: Sean 9-11, Kimberly 11-1, Nadia 1:30-3:30

Wednesday: An 8:15-10:15, Jen 12-2, Lorena 2:15-4:15

The Political Science Peer Advisors for 2011-12 are:



 
 lorena Lorena Camarena is a Senior Political Science major with a minor in International Business. Originally from San Francisco, she is a member of Pi Sigma Alpha and participated in the Washington Semester Program last fall in the Foreign Policy section. While there, she also interned for Congresswoman Anna G. Eshoo (California, 14th District). She loves being outdoors and anything involving sports including beach volleyball and going to Giants games, as well as travelling.
 Jen Peer Advisor

Jennifer Warner is a Junior Political Science major with a Pre-Law emphasis and a Philosophy minor.  She is originally from Millbrae, California which is about 30 minutes north of SCU, and loves being home with her family to spend time with her three sisters and Dalmatian, Dottie. Being a member of Santa Clara cheer team keeps her busy, as does her life long love of dancing. Her interest in law, which began when she visited her mother working as a court reporter San Francisco Superior Court, drives her forward toward law school and an eventual career as a Criminal Defense Attorney in San Francisco.

 Kimberly

Kimberly Aagaard is a senior Political Science and Spanish double major with a minor in Economics. One of the first Poli Sci Peer Advisors, she is extremely excited to be returning to the department after an entire year abroad. She spent the fall of 2010 in an intensive Spanish program in Salamanca, Spain, through IES. Her spring semester "abroad" was spent in the Washington Semester Program studying International Peace and Conflict Resolution (which included a three-week research trip to Cyprus, Greece, and Turkey). In Washington, she interned for the Association for Diplomatic Studies and Training, where she got a real State Department badge. She also just finished a summer Public Policy internship at the Silicon Valley Council of Nonprofits. She is a member of the SCU Political Science Honors Program and Pi Sigma Alpha (the National Political Science Honor Society).  Originally from Auburn, CA, Kimberly enjoys playing on the women's club Ultimate Frisbee team, both listening to and playing music, hiking, and reading.

Nadia Yassin is Senior Political Science major with Pre-Law & Public Sector emphases and an Economics minor. She is a Bay Area local hailing from Fremont, CA, and sneaks back whenever she can for a home-cooked meal! Nadia currently serves the Associated Student Government as Senior Class Chair, and is also a Community Facilitator with the ALPHA RLC. During her time at Santa Clara, she has had the opportunity to explore the world of politics within the Non-Profit Sector. During her junior year, she interned with the International Rescue Committee, an organization that provides social services to refugees living in the Bay Area. The summer before her senior year, she also participated in the Politicorps Fellowship in Portland, OR with The Bus Project, an organization that strives to get young leaders involved in politics and provide extensive training in the art of Community & Political Organizing. She enjoys traveling, listening to music, and meeting new people! Nadia hopes to attend law school after her time at SCU.

 Sean Barganski is a Senior Political Science Major and Mathematics minor from Fullerton, California in Orange County.  He is the Co-President of the Model United Nations Club through the Political Science Department.  Sean went abroad to Perugia, Italy, in Fall 2010, where he studied Italian and the European Union, visiting the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic in Rome.  This past Summer, Sean worked as an intern for Councilmember Pete Constant in San Jose's District 1.  In his spare time Sean plays basketball and soccer with friends and loves to read all kinds of books.

An Nguyen is a Junior Political Science and Economics Double Major with an Emphasis in Pre-Law. He is from the all too distant land of Milpitas, CA, all 10 minutes away from Santa Clara. He currently serves as a Community Facilitator in the Modern Perspective RLC. Constantly on the move, An is working his way through school to eventually become a hot shot lawyer making billions of dollars. Dream Big!. In the spare time he has, An enjoys meeting new people, cooking, listening to music, and living on Facebook. Stop by the Political Science Office and say hi!
