Curriculum Vita: Eric Hanson (updated 9/2009)
Eric Hanson has taught comparative politics (China, Religion and Politics) at Santa Clara University since 1976. He received the university Brutacao Award for excellence in teaching in 1992 and the Arts and Sciences award for teaching excellence in 2003. He chaired the committee that revised the University Core Curriculum, 1992-97. He has also served as department chair for four years and a member of Rank and Tenure Committees for thirteen years. As Alumni Liaison for the Political Science Department, he publishes the yellow journalistic sheet Political Asylum at irregular intervals. He authors the Markkula Ethics Center website Religion, Ethics, and Politics in World Affairs, based on his book Religion and Politics in the International System (Cambridge, 2006).
Eric and his wife Kathleen attend most SCU soccer matches. Kathleen teaches and directs the lab for the English as a Second Language Program at San Jose City College. She also directs a free, no advertising ESL site (www.ESLStation.net) with over 475K hits. Their elder daughter Erin (SCU ’97) substitute teaches while pursuing an acting career and a Masters in German in the LA area. She married Andrew Collins August 2007. Their younger daughter Kara, an architect in Palo Alto, married Jonathan Miller in May 2005.
