Two separate forms need to be filled out to petition to graduate. First is the Pre-Graduation Evaluation and second is the Candidacy Petition for the Bachelor’s Degree form. As a general rule we suggest that you see your Faculty Advisor for question pertaining to graduate school, jobs after graduation, personal issues, and any questions you are not comfortable discussing with the Department Student Advisor. To change advisors you fill out a Change of Advisor Form. This form can be found in the main Psych office, you then see the department student advisor for a signature. After completing the form and receiving a signature you hand in the form to the How do I check my Degree Progress? You may check your Degree Progress any time on e-campus. You do this by choosing “Degree Progress” under “Academic History” and then choosing “Unof Transcript + Degree Audit”. This will show you what classes you have taken as well as what Core requirement you have and have not taken. Any unfulfilled Core requirements will be highlighted in red. A Suggested Plan of Action for Are you the same department as counseling psychology and do you offer graduate degrees? We are not the same department as Counseling Psychology. Counseling Psychology is the graduate masters program. Our department is a strictly undergraduate department. Does this Psych class that I took at some other place before I transferred here count here? In most cases we will transfer Psych 1, 2, 40, and 43. We require that you take 8 upper-division Psych courses at SCU, so if you take an upper-division course at another university you must petition to have it fulfill a Psych requirement and then must take and extra Psych elective to fulfill the requirement of 8 upper-division Psych courses taken as SCU. Does this class that I took in my study-abroad program count here? There are many Psychology classes offered abroad. In most cases you should have your classes approved to count for Psych credit before you go abroad. If you do not do this and the class is not pre-approved you must have the chair of the department look over the syllabus from the class, and then decide whether it counts. Can I take upper division psychology classes at the same time that I am taking Psych 40 or 43? Or do I have to finish those classes first, before taking upper division class? So long as you are finished with the rest of your lower division Psych requirements you may take Psych 40 or 43 concurrently with another upper division Psych class. Can I Independent Study a Psychology Class? You may independent study a psychology course if the individual professor who teaches the class that you would like to independent study is willing to be your independent study advisor and teacher. Psych 199C. Directed The new core will take effect fall of 09. If you began at SCU before then the new core will not affect your studies or your requirements. Do I still have to take a foreign language if I took 3 years in high school? Yes you do. All incoming students should take a language placement test. If you test higher than the third level you do not have to take a foreign language. If you test less than the third level you do have to take foreign language until you reach the third level. Do I have to take Psych 1 if I received a 4 or 5 on the AP Psych test? Yes you do. The AP test excuses you from taking Psych 2, but all students have to take Psych 1. |
