The Religious Studies Department offers students the opportunity to study religion using a variety of methodologies and provides a cross-cultural, inter-disciplinary, and comparative investigation into a variety of religious beliefs and practices.

The Religious Studies Department is located on the third floor of Kenna Hall.

Also on this site, you can learn about interdisciplinary minors and which religious studies classes count toward each of those minors.  Our newest interdisciplinary minor is the Arabic, Islamic, and Middle Eastern Studies (AIMES) Program.  In addition to that program, we have interdisciplinary minors in Catholic Studies, Asian Studies, Ethnic Studies, Women and Gender Studies, and Medieval and Renaissance Studies.

The Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries offers master's degrees in Catechetics, Pastoral Liturgy, Catholic Education, Spirituality, and Liturgical Music.  The Graduate Program in Pastoral Ministries has an online application.

 

Religious Studies Majors and Minors Receive 2009 Awards

 Three graduating seniors will be receiving awards at the 2009 commencement ceremonies. Minor, Brandon Ashby, will be awarded the 2009 Valedictorian, minor, Noelle Lopez, will be awarded the Saint Clare Medal, and major, Anne Rovzar, will receive the Richard J. Riordan Award.

The boards of Santa Clara University and the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley (JST), along with the U.S. Jesuit provincials, approved an integration of the two Bay Area institutions that will enable each to draw upon the academic and theological strengths of the other, officials announced on May 4, 2009.
