Context -- What is the Local Religion Project?
LRP supports teaching and research on Silicon Valley’s rich and diverse religious landscape. SCU faculty are working with students—research assistants, and students in classes--to document that landscape and to complete research projects with different focuses. Starting September 2008, their work will be made available to SCU faculty and students as well as the civic, religious and academic communities beyond SCU through the LRP website. LRP seeks to establish partnerships with local congregations and organizations to support our research and to develop programs for both the university and the wider community. Contacts made by SCU students in the past few years have made an invaluable contribution to this work. LRP also sponsors campus programs; for spring 2007, for example, we offered a second “Valley of the Gods” series, Catholic Worlds of the Valley. LRP is sponsored by the Religious Studies Department, where it began in 1998, with financial support from different offices across the University, including the Arts and Sciences Dean’s Office. For further information, consult the LRP website. |
