Iterative Processes

A research project can be thought of as an iterative process. “Iterative” adds to “cumulative” the sense that ongoing or continual revision of your initial questions and conceptions of a project is an important dimension of your work. For example, a student may begin with the question, how many undocumented immigrants are members of Catholic parishes, but after visits to a site and interviews, she/he may learn that question does not take them very far, but that people at a site are very interested in cultural identity from one generation to the next.
