Annotated BibliographyThe LRP annotated bibliography is divided into the follow sections. To access each section, simply click on the heading. As our collection grows in the future, we will make this a searchable data base. Urban Studies Includes general studies, Mumford and Jacobs (primary and secondary), as well as studies of specific urban regions and issues. Religious Pluralism/Pluralism Project Includes publications related to the general topic of religious pluralism I find helpful in framing the Local Religion Project, for example W.C. Smith, as well as publications on the topic out of the various centers, especially Harvard’s Pluralism Project. Civic Engagement, Civic Culture…and Religion Includes general studies on the topic of civic engagement or identity, on social capital (Putnam) as well as those with an emphasis on the issues as related to religion—for example, Bellah’s Civic Religion, uses of Tocqueville, separation of church and state, etc. Faith-Based Community Organizations This could be part of civic engagement…religion section. Studies of both the history (for example Saul Alinsky references) as well as policy issues (for example, discussions of Bush administrative faith-based initiative), studies of specific organizations or regions (for example Ed Wood’s work on PICO in Oakland) Immigration Includes general or better, generalist studies, pieces reflecting on the census (but not for this region; see below), and specific studies. Santa Clara County, South Bay, Silicon Valley Region Includes historical and cultural studies of region, particular communities (e.g Japan town, Chinese community), regional public policy studies, etc. most of which serves as background for project Issues in Local Region Specific items illustrating Local Religion Project focus, interests or angles. E.g. inter-faith marriage, inter-faith peace or anti-war coalition in bay area, hate crime studies or cases, fallout from Patriot Act and immigration, historical approaches (e.g. nativist groups in Bay Area) |
