Research Databases

There are several electronic databases available for the study of scripture, religion and theology. Some of these are available to SCU students with student id's through the library website, while others are available online to the general public.


Library Databases

  • Oscar - indexes books, periodicals, electronic and other resources at Orradre Library.
  • ATLA Religion Database + ATLAS - index to periodicals, research in ministry, book reviews in religion and Methodist reviews. 1949 to present, updated semi-annually.
  • Catholic Periodical and Literature Index - indexes Catholic periodicals, papal documents, church promulgations, adn books about the Catholic faith authored by Catholics or published by Catholic presses. 1981 to present.


Public Databases
  • American Religion Data Archive - preserves quantitative data on American religion; adding an international component in 2006. Funded by the Lilly Endowment, Inc.
  • Center for Christian Jewish Learning - educational and dialogical aids, theological articles, official documents and study center located at Boston College.
  • The Perseus Digital Library - texts from the classical period, papyri, English renaissance, and other resources.
  • Public Policy Institute of California - provides independent, objective, nonpartisan research on major economic, social, and political issues; a resource for the study of local religious groups involved in these issues.
