Dr. Sandhu's areas of expertise include:  race and ethnicity, immigration, and organizations.  Her work, "Instant Karma: The Commercialization of Indian Culture," is published  Jennifer Lee and Min Zhou's (2003) edited volume titled, Asian Youth Cultures.  Her collective work on immigration, interracial marriage, and multiracial identity is published in The Review of Black Political Economy (2004).   

She is currently working on a book that explores the culture of success among highly skilled Asian Indian immigrants in California.  She is also conducting research on Asian Americans medical professionals.

At Santa Clara University she teaches Principles of Sociology, Culture and Ideas in a Changing World, Social Problems, Race and Inequality, Social Stratification, and Populations and Resources.
