Carolyn Silberman
On the SCU dance faculty for over 25 years, formerly as head of the dance program, Carolyn was also founder and Executive Director of the New Dance Company, San Jose. An active professional dancer, her background includes performing experience with Cliff Keuter and numerous free lance professional opportunities. She is the recipient of several grants for her projects from sources including the Hewlett and Irvine Foundations.
Her areas of teaching expertise include modern dance, composition, and choreography. Carolyn continues her training through workshops with contemporary artists such as Simon Forti and Joe Goode. Weekly ongoing professional classes are important to her.
Carolyn also serves as Co-Director of the Justice and the Arts Initiative (JAI) and teaches a seminar course in Social Justice and the Arts.
Carolyn enjoys working with students studying dance within a liberal arts context.
