Theatre and Dance welcomes any donation that facilitates the ongoing good work, growth and success of our students and department programs. Made possible by the generous support of community members and alumni, donations not only provide students with scholarship money, but also permit enhanced learning opportunities such as training and collaboration with professionals, and the purchase of needed equipment.
The majority of contributions are designated for the Theatre and Dance gift fund which allows the greatest flexibility to support department endeavors. A brief statement of other funds' are defined below. Please contact Department Chair, David Popalisky, with any questions.
Scholarship & Donation Funds:
Theatre and Dance Gift Fund
Supports all department activities, some that recur annually and others that are one-time events or for new innovations such as the Spring Immersion Trip to New York currently in development.
Theatre Donations Fund
Funds are specifically only used to facilitate the growth and needs of theatre programs and productions. They help bring in guest artists such as Cindy and Mauricio Salgado for the ASTEP (Artists Striving Against Poverty) Program; guest speakers such as Leslie Reinhardt, Equity Stage Manager; and individuals who conduct Master Classes and workshops such as Composer James Robert Brown.
Dance Donations Fund
Funds are specifically only used to facilitate the needs of dance programs and productions such as the purchase of a new marley floor, as well as masterclasses by guest teachers such as Kristine Bendul whose Broadway credits include On the Town, The King and I, and the Tony Awards TV show.
Founders Scholarship Fund
In honor of the Theatre and Dance Department founders, Al Gibson and Bill James, this scholarship is awarded to an outstanding student majoring in theatre and dance.
Scott Robertson Technical Scholars Fund
In honor of Technical Director Scott Robertson, this fund is used to help pay for extracurricular activities for our design/technical students such as attending The United States Institute For Technical Theatre (USITT) conferences or any other workshops or seminars appropriate to their craft.
Donations in kind are, in certain circumstances, equally beneficial to the work of the department. For example, Catherine Pendleton recently offered her home at a 50% discount through AirBnB for the Fall residency of guest director Scott Kaiser from Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
All donor levels will receive recognition in next year's Department of Theatre & Dance production programs.
