Yolanda (Kate) JonesLoyola Marymount University, Los Angeles I’m Yolanda, I am a senior Creative Writing major, Spanish minor at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, and I am loving life here at Casa Bayanihan. I am also a former Casa de la Solidaridad alumna, and I am finding myself falling ever more deeply in love with this way of life which focuses on solidarity and accompanying others, recognizing that our life and liberation are bound together. Whether I’m at praxis, in class or kicking it around our community, I am so happy to be here! Thanks for reading and ingat (take care)!
Juliane PeithmanUC Santa Cruz Hello all! My name is Juliane Peithman and I am a senior at UC Santa Cruz. I chose to come to Casa because I longed to be in touch with my roots. I wanted to study abroad, but found no other place more important than coming to the motherland and learning about my culture, history, and language. I have found and am continuing to find such life-giving experiences here in the Philippines. No words can truly describe what a blessing it is to be here.
Amber CavarlezUniversity of San Francisco My name is Amber Cavarlez, originally from Los Angeles and studying Sociology at the University of San Francisco. As a Filipina American I hope to not only gain a deeper understanding of my identity with the Casa in the Philippines, but also to form relationships with communities so that we may learn and experience together.
Colleen RossMarquette University Hello! My name is Colleen Ross. I am a junior at Marquette University, although I am originally from Troy, MI (a suburb of Detroit). I am studying International Affairs with a concentration in Peace and Conflict Studies, so coming to the Philippines to study abroad with Casa Bayanihan really complements my program at Marquette. So far, I love being a part of the Casa Bayanihan community and spending time at my praxis site with the families there!
Justin C. IselinUniversity of San Francisco My name is Justin C. Iselin I am a 24 year old student at University of San Francisco. I am currently seeking out my passions in life and transitioning from my term of service in the U.S. Navy. I enjoy the company of any good hearted individual and I appreciate intellectual conversations. My major is in Finance and my minor is in Legal Studies, I am looking toward admission into a School of Law, and considering a sideline pursuit toward becoming a Chartered Financial Analyst. GO DONS!
Charlene NayanSeattle University Hello, all! I’m Charlene Nayan, a Filipino-American immersing myself in this rich culture. Studying abroad in the Philippines gifts valuable background even as a sophomore business major from Seattle University. The delicious foods, warm people, and variety of activities have been endearing throughout the stay. More importantly, all the great dynamics of Casa Bayanihan offer exciting new experiences and challenges that everyone should embrace.
Lauren FrankUniversity of San Francisco My name is Lauren Frank, my major is sociology and I am a senior at the University of San Francisco. I chose to be a part of Casa Bayanihan because I wanted to go beyond the classroom setting and apply myself in real life experiences. Being here in the Philippines, is teaching me so much about life, both personally and globally, and is something that I will keep with me always and share with those around me. Spring 2012
