I am a proud graduate of SCU, Class of 1977, and I am grateful to serve at this university that has had such a significant impact on my own life. I was born in Monterey,CA, the youngest of five children. My father was a career naval officer, so we lived in several places, includingGreece, in my early childhood. We settled inSan Diego, which I consider my hometown.
I entered the Jesuit Order in 1978 and was ordained in 1990. Over the years I have lived in different parts of the country for studies and work, and have also had extraordinary shorter-term experiences inMexico,TaiwanandKenya. I’ve studied atFordhamUniversity(M.A. Humanities), Weston Jesuit School of Theology (M.Div.) and the Jesuit School of Theology at Berkeley (Th.M.).
I’ve served as a campus minister at both theUniversityofSan FranciscoandSeattleUniversity. I’ve also had several years of urban parish ministry. Prior to coming to SCU, I served as the Rector of the Jesuit Community at USF.
I am thrilled to serve in Campus Ministry, as I consider it to be at the heart our university mission. I find it so fulfilling to be invited into the lives of young adults as they ask key questions about themselves, our world, and our God. I’m particularly interested in sharing some of the key elements of Ignatian spirituality, which is so helpful in coming to know one’s deepest desires and to discern one’s call in the world. I’m involved in the Ignatian retreats, marriage preparation, and spiritual direction, among other activities, and am honored to be leading such a talented and committed group of campus ministers.
On a more personal note, my vices include coffee and chocolate. I try to exercise daily, love to catch up with friends over dinner, delight in the various arts offerings of the Bay Area, and am quite content with a good book.
Enjoy a slice of pizza tomorrow night, Monday, November 9th at Stuft Pizza to support students attending the Ignatian Family Teach-In in Georgia this Thanksgiving. This is a great time to ask participants questions about the Teach-In.
Looking for something a little different? Campus Ministry is offering a Bible studythat is intentionally diverse, informal, co-ed, multi-ethnic, global-minded, and open to diverse perspectives. The group will be led by Rev. Aimee Moiso and Dr. Regina Davis-Sowers. All are welcome!
