Day 11: Roasting Brown Greenly

"We owe it to ourselves and to the next generation to conserve the environment so that we can bequeath our children a sustainable world that benefits all." -Wangari Maathai

Don't settle for coffee roasted weeks ago using carbon-intensive fuel and delivery methods. Learn how to reduce the energy needed to roast and deliver coffee at its freshest. One example of a coffee-roasting business is HelioRoast.

9:30-11:00 a.m. Coffee tasting in Campus Ministry If you want to taste Helioroast, stop by our gathering reception area 12:00 Forge Fridays -- Helioroast available for purchase
1:30-2:30 Learn about Helioroast! In the large conference room, an informational presentation on Helioroast will be given, which includes how the solar technology works, about the kinds of coffee as well as the entrepreneurial side of this locally sustained business.

Most coffee is grown in developing cultures and consumed in developed ones. The coffee industry can potentially raise the standard of living in the former. If you're a consumer you can help to reduce the carbon footprint and raise social equity of world's most popular popular beverage (other than water) by supporting local organizations like HelioRoast (as well as other local companies like Agro-Eco or Barefoot Coffee Roasters) who are conscientious of sustainability.
