Recommendations

The following recommendations were made at CCC meetings as well as the “Fostering Leadership for Change” conversation. We will keep everyone posted the progress of the recommendations.

  • Community-based learning for all students in the revised University Core.
  • A program called Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (C.O.R.E.) could be implemented at SCU to provide opportunities for continued discussion and increased sensitivity among students, staff, and faculty.
  • The Core revision could be revisited with the idea that diversity needs greater attention across the University.
  • Get information about contract laborers being banned from speaking to students.
  • Have current athletes come up with a proposal before the end of this quarter on how to foster leadership for change among athletes next year and beyond. This model will then be extended to AASCU, OSL, RLCs.
  • Faculty & staff sensitivity training.  In the near future faculty and staff will be required by law to participate in some kind of training related to reporting of bias.  This legally mandated training could be augmented to meet SCU need for change.  Faculty and staff could also be required to participate in sensitivity training at regular intervals.
  • An institutionalized structure for Inclusive Excellence/Diversity with an operational budget and additional staff in place.
  • Creative hiring and compensation packages as a part of outreach to faculty of color.
  • Financial aid packages to support students of color.
  • More pipeline programs to outreach to high school, middle school and first generation students.
  • Recognition and celebration of high achieving students.
  • Inclusive Excellence Website
