High-risk drinking, defined as 5 or more drinks in one sitting for males and 4 or more for females, is a major public health problem on college campuses. There are many misperceptions regarding the extent of the problem, which can contribute to the abuse of alcohol.


While the term "drug" technically refers to any substance used to create a desired effect on the human body, it is usually used to refer to a subset of these substances generally known as recreational drugs. Recreational drugs affect the central nervous system, and some recreational drugs can cause addition or dependency.
