Adventure Trips
for Freshmen

During the week prior to the start of the new academic year were two adventure trips for first-year students. One trip was the scuID Leadership Retreat for 30 freshmen led by Center for Student Leadership staff at the YMCA Camp Jones Gulch in La Honda. The other was a backpacking trip for 13 freshmen led by Into the Wild (outdoor/wilderness student organization) in Henry Coe State Park in Morgan Hill. Learn more >>>

Involvement Fair

The Student Involvement Fair is an opportunity for students to learn at a single event about a wide variety of co-curricular activities available on campus ranging from student organizations to club sports to intramurals to leadership groups. This year's Student Involvement Fair on September 23 featured over 100 tables to welcome new students as well as provide opportunities for returning students to reconnect after the summer. The Welcome Weekend and Welcome Weeks schedule was combined into one colorful and detailed schedule! With this schedule new students were able to learn about a variety of events and opportunities designed to help them acclimate to the SCU community and life in college. Jade Agua, OML Program Director

Originally from eastside San Jose, Jade Agua (pictured in the middle) is a fourth-generation Filipino Chinese American whose family immigrated to the United States through Hawai`i. As the Program Director of the Office for Multicultural Learning, Jade will provide strategic oversight of the office, manage the staff and budget, implement programs, and continue to build relationships with campus partners. Prior to SCU, Jade worked at the University of Southern California (USC), most recently as a Graduate Advisor for Critical Studies in the School of Cinematic Arts and previously as Assistant Director at Asian Pacific American Student Services. She also brings with her community-based, non-profit experience and is currently a steering committee member for the Asian Pacific Islander Obesity Prevention Alliance (APIOPA). Jade earned her Bachelor of Arts In Sociology and Master in Public Administration from USC.

This month CSL is highlighting the Santa Clara Community Action Program (SCCAP) which is a community-based, service organization dedicated to applying activism and justice to address social issues in and around the campus community.
