    Below are general guidelines for most types of marketing by a student organization.

    Posting & Chalking

    Marketing guidelines for student organizations may be found in the Student Handbook, particularly in the section titled "Posting Printed Material & Chalking" (pages 45-46).

    Funded By

    If your student organization received funding for your event from another organization, department, or other entity, it is highly recommended that you list this entity on all marketing. For example: "Funded by NAME OF ENTITY."

    Disability Statement

    Also, all marketing needs to include the Disability Statement. This statement reads as follows:

    "In compliance with the ADA/504, please direct your accommodation requests to NAME at EMAIL ADDRESS."

    For NAME fill in the name of the primary student organizing this event, and for EMAIL ADDRESS fill in that student's email address. You may also use a phone number instead of an email address.

  • iconMarketing on Campus

    In general, be wary that there are places and spaces where you can and cannot post marketing. Be sure to follow all instructions for a particular marketing method.

    ASG Listserv

    Student organizations may submit announcements to the Associated Student Government (ASG) to post in the weekly "This Week at SCU" email to the student body. Submit your announcement to the ASG Vice President.

    Tabling at Benson

    Student organizations may reserve tables inside and outside the Benson Center to market themselves and their events. To reserve tables, contact Samantha Kibbish.

    Hanging Banners at Benson

    Student organizations may hang banners on the top railings of the east and west staircases leading to the 2nd floor of Benson. Banners must measure no more than 3 feet in width by 6 feet in length and must be hung by the clips provided. Reservations are on a "first come, first serve" basis and are 2 weeks in duration. To reserve banner space, contact Blake Malcolm.

    Digital Ads on LCD Screens

    Student organizations may display digital ads on LCD television screens at the Benson Center, Lucas Hall, and the Learning Commons. Each building has its own posting policy and procedure.

    Posting Flyers in Residence Halls

    The Office of Residence Life has guidelines for students and student organizations wanting to post promotional material in the residence halls.

    Posting Flyers in Other Buildings

    Each building has its own posting policy and procedure so consult with the staff in each building to determine what can and cannot be posted.

    Two rules of thumb to follow:

    • If you do not see any flyers posted anywhere in a certain building, then your flyers are likely not acceptable to post.
    • If you see only flyers posted by departments housed within a certain building, then your flyers are likely not acceptable to post unless you are co-sponsoring an event with one of these departments.

    Marketing online is a fast and cost-effective (free) way to promote a student organization or event. The online options below do not count platforms like Facebook and those offered by Google.

    OrgSync

    The online community for student organizations at Santa Clara is OrgSync. Student organizations may use the various marketing and communication tools on OrgSync to communicate not only to their members but to the entire student body. Recommended tools include:

    • Videos
    • Website
