Outdoor Leadership Expedition
Who should participate? If you enjoy the freedom of the outdoors and have a desire to effectively lead with confidence, this program is for you!
What will you learn? Learn and practice basic survival skills, leadership concepts, and environmental stewardship. Gain: Safety and technical survival skills like map reading, basic First Aid, emergency procedures, route selection and navigation, minimum impact camp craft, packing techniques and expedition planning. Leadership skills including how to manage emotions, work in teams, gain self-confidence, foster self-acceptance, cultivate tolerance and appreciation of differences, and promote respect for self, group and community. Environmental stewardship addresses skills that seek to preserve natural artifacts, plant and animal habitats while considering ecological facets that touch upon water purification, hygiene and sanitation, and food selection and nutrition within the natural world.
Experienced outdoor facilitators will guide you on weekend trips during the fall, winter, and spring quarters that combine adventures such as overnight camping in the backcountry, hiking or backpacking through unexplored territories, and walking on high wires on a ropes course. In Outdoor Leadership Expedition, you will question, act, and reflect through journaling, group discussions and hands-on leadership experiences. You are required to attend an outdoor skills seminar and two meetings before and after the expedition. |
