Conversations/Conversaciones: Women CollaborateJan. 17March 14, 2004Conversations/Conversaciones highlights five collaborative artworks by women artists and writers commissioned for the exhibition. Featuring the work of artists Celia Herrera Rodríguez, Hulleah Tsinhnahjinnie, Consuelo Jiménez Underwood, Fan Lee Warren, and writers Opal Palmer Adisa and Cherrie Moraga, the exhibition explores an emerging trend amongst artists and writers in the Bay Area to work independently while sharing a desire to collaborate and create together. Artworks created for the exhibition were started separately by each artist and writer and then passed on to another artist or writer until the five collaborative pieces were completed. Co-curated by Santa Clara University Assistant Professor Bridget Cooks, Ph.D., and Constance Cortez, Ph.D., Assistant Professor at Texas Tech University, Conversations/Conversaciones is designed to be a flexible exhibition project for artists and writers. Four visual artists and two writers worked collaboratively to create new works together from their own separate spaces. In the process, the creation of the artworks brought artists and writers together as they built on each others ideas and connected with their colleagues. |
