Worldwide Internet Music Resources

It isn't much to look at visually, but this web site, created and maintained by librarians at the Indiana University Music Library, is one of the most comprehensive directories to Internet resources on music, musicians, and musical organizations. It covers all types of popular music, as well as classical music, not only from the United States and Europe, but from around the world. Containing a good mix of scholarly and popular sites, this is a good gateway to turn to first when looking for anything musical.

Produced by a music conservatory in Helsinki, Finland, this is one of the best guides to music resources on the Web. Honored in 1996 as one of PC Magazine's Top 100 Web Sites, this site offers links to useful sites on all types of music (classical and popular), composers, instruments, music software, sites with audioclips, musical publications, musical organizations, etc. (Take heart, this site is in English, though you can use it in Finnish if you want to!)

The New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians
The library has a subscription to the online version of this major encyclopedia. To connect to it, go to the library home page at http://www.scu.edu/library, click on Electronic Databases A-Z and select it.
This is the major English-language encyclopedia of music and musicians from all periods and countries. It is especially strong for classical music but includes other types of music as well. This is the best place to look for scholarly, reliable articles on any musical topic. The articles include thousands of links to high-quality web sites and audio clips.

Devoted to classical music only, this is a good source for reviews of CDs, information on recommended books and scores, and links to over 3,800 web sites on composers, musicians, ensembles, festivals, concerts, publishers, recording labels, instrument makers, radio stations, music archives for downloading scores, educational institutions, and musical organizations and societies. If it has to do with classical music, you can probably find it here.
