The DSM-5© is due to arrive in May 2013, and all of us working in the mental health field will feel its impact. Some of the goals of this new edition are to bring our model of mental disorder more in line with the ICD-10, and to expand our understanding of diagnoses to include new evidence from the neurosciences, genetic studies, and epidemiology. In this workshop, take a tour of the new DSM and learn about the anticipated implications of its dramatic changes.

 

 

Cary Watson is a Lecturer in counseling psychology at Santa Clara University, where she teaches courses in clinical assessment of both adults and children.  She received an M.A. in Counseling Psychology from Santa Clara University, and a Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Stanford University. Her clinical experience includes a variety of clinical settings, including family and child therapy agencies, college counseling centers, and the Dept. of Psychiatry at Kaiser Permanente.  In addition to her university teaching, she maintains a limited private practice in the South Bay Area.
