How do I pay for my graduate education?
The following information should help you estimate the cost of a Graduate Education in the Department of Counseling Psychology at Santa Clara University. Our prices, as well as suggestions for general living expenses, are listed below. NOTE: The quoted costs are based on 2011-2012 University pricing schedule, and change year to year. Tuition cost = Graduate Cost per unit X the number of units in your degree program.

Are there school scholarships available?
Yes. The school offers a limited number of full, half, and 1/10th scholarships to students. These scholarships are awarded in June. An application is available on line. Scholarships are based on need and merit.

What are some resources available to pay for my education?
Loans are one way to help students meet the costs associated with obtaining a graduate professional education. While all of these loans must be repaid, the terms and conditions associated with each type may vary substantially.
The Director of Admission for the School of Education and Counseling Psychology will determine your eligibility for loan programs by evaluating your application for financial aid and will provide information about your eligibility through an Award Notification.

Federal Perkins Loans
- Interest rate: fixed at 5%.
- Subsidized (no interest) while student is enrolled and during grace period.
- Need-based, check your award notification to see if you're eligible.
Federal Direct Loans

Federal Direct PLUS Loans for Grad & Law Students

- Not need-based, may borrow up to Cost of Attendance minus all other financial aid.
Private Loans
- Interest rate: variable, depends on borrower’s credit.
- Unsubsidized: interest starts accruing right away.
- Not need-based, may borrow up to Cost of Attendance minus all other financial aid.

Are there graduate assistantships available in the University?
Yes. One can apply to student housing for a position as a Resident Director. Directors receive free housing, board allotment, and a small stipend.
Other opportunities are available through Campus Ministry, to serve as a Campus Ministry intern for a stipend.
Department professors often have need for a Teaching Assistant. Teaching assistants receive a stipend.
