Description
This advanced seminar addresses the roles and responsibilities of the education specialist in communication, collaboration, consultation, and problem solving as these skills relate to the facilitation of inclusion. Students will acquire a working knowledge of history, models, unique challenges and administrative issues in inclusion support of students with disabilities. Strategies of effective inclusion support such as co-teaching, collaborative teaming, itinerant consulting, problem solving and conflict resolution will be addressed. Attention will be given to issues relating to paraprofessionals in inclusive settings. Fundamentals of adult learning and parent/staff needs assessment will be covered. Students will design and develop an in-service program for staff and/or parents that will be used in their current practice of special education. Concurrent enrollment or previous completion of 305J (ECE) or 305Q (M/M) is required.
Note: The Parent and Staff Development section includes one unit of fieldwork. You do not need to register separately for the fieldwork unit. When you get to the Registration page, after filling out your personal info you will be given the option to select either x500 OR x501 & x502.
