Description

This workshop will focus on various psychotherapy approaches to work more effectively with GLBT clients.  Within the GLBT community, there are unique challenges to living a secure and happy life.  People feel the stress of being "different," and are often marginalized from childhood through old age in various ways. The process of Coming Out, for example, whether as a youth, a parent, or an adult in the workplace is a daily, stressful occurrence for many.  The reminder of "otherness" and navigating authenticity in relationships and community will be explored.
Workshop participants can expect to learn more about the struggles of men, women, and trans-folk throughout the lifespan.  In addition, participants will engage in participatory exercises to develop better empathy in the clinical setting.   Specific psychotherapy techniques will be discussed, and participants can expect to learn more sophisticated methods to interact and explore psychological strengths and challenges for GLBT clients.
