Description
This is a 7-hour workshop on Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), an exciting, evidence-based therapy that has generated international interest. ACT helps clients move away from unworkable avoidance or escape strategies in response to unwanted thoughts, emotions and memories. Instead, they learn how to experience these events while engaging in behaviors that are in accordance with their personal values. Rather than seeking to fix "problematic" thoughts or feelings, ACT uses acceptance and mindfulness techniques, combined with commitment and behavior change strategies, to help clients move away from suffering and towards vital living.
This workshop will provide participants with a solid foundation in both ACT theory and application. Participants will learn the theoretical and philosophical underpinnings of ACT, including a summary of ACT-related research and the ways in which this informs the therapy. The core ACT processes and how they are applied will be covered extensively along with common pitfalls and ways these can be addressed. Participants will also be provided with information regarding additional learning opportunities and resources.
This class qualifies for the Advanced Psychotherapy Certificate program.
