Description
Therapists inadvertently get trapped in early sessions with high conflict couples. The most challenging couples are usually in so much pain or so highly defended they cannot see the negative impact they have on their partner. They desperately want relief by hoping the therapist will change the partner.
- Learn how to get out of the middle of their cross complaining.
- Smoothly create a structure to keep the focus on their personal growth even when that is not the initial goal.
- Integrate practical strategies from Neuroscience, Attachment and Differentiation theory to get couples therapy off to a strong start.
We recommend getting a head start on this class by going to www.CouplesInstitute.com/training and downloading a free audio on working with the hostile angry couple. We will use lecture, clinical cases, and role play to demonstrate how to skillfully avoid unnecessary traps.
